From Burnt Out to Thriving: My Journey and How You Can Reclaim Your Energy

Motherhood is a beautiful journey, but it can also be incredibly demanding and overwhelming. I, too, was once a burnt-out mama who felt like I was drowning in the responsibilities of parenthood. However, through mindfulness practices, I transformed my life into one where I run my own business, homeschool my children, and even travel full time. In this blog post, I’ll share my personal journey and the mindfulness practices that helped me find balance, set priorities, and create strong boundaries—all while staying in alignment with my values. Additionally, I’ll introduce you to my course, “Find Your Flow,” where I guide moms through the in-depth steps of doing the internal work to take back their energy and alignment with their values.

The Burnout Phase

My journey began with exhaustion and burnout. As a stay at home mom, I felt like I was juggling too many responsibilities. Work, parenting, household chores – being everyone’s manager —it was all too much. I was constantly stressed, and it was affecting my health and my relationship with my children. For me, it always felt like there was an unspoken, or even sometimes, spoken, expectation, that I bear all the burdens. Everyone’s mental and physical health were my responsibility, everyone’s schedules were my responsibility, everyone’s messes were my responsibility. I know many mamas face the similar feeling of overwhelm.

Discovering Mindfulness

Desperate for a change, I dove into the research on living a healthy, well- balanced life. I wanted to find the path to ease within motherhood. I knew it was possible- I saw other mamas genuinely enjoying motherhood. They seemed to be in flow and I needed to find my path to the same in flow and at ease version of motherhood. In my search, I stumbled upon mindfulness. I had previously known a little about mindfulness before becoming a mom. I had done yoga fairly regularly and I had studied Buddhism. However, when I had become a mom, I had mostly thrown it all out. It seemed like something for someone that wasn’t responsible for growing a human would do, but really, it was quite the opposite. Being responsible for a human was exactly why I needed mindfulness practices. I started with simple practices like guided meditation and deep breathing. These practices helped me slow down my pace of life, even if just for a few minutes each day. Little by little I began to reclaim my breath, to reclaim my mind, and to get a clear, not overwhelmed, greater perspective of how I could begin to change my life. It was a revelation—I realized that taking care of myself was not selfish; it was necessary for my well-being and the well-being of my children. I realized those moments that once seemed wasted were actually making my whole life much more efficient and organized.

Setting Priorities

Mindfulness made me more aware of what truly mattered in my life. I started to be able to pinpoint and identify the areas of my life that were draining and the areas that seemed to help “fill my cup.” As this became more clear and I could begin to I identify and set clear priorities, I began making little shifts in where I would allow my energy to go. I identified my core values and made choices that aligned with them. For example, I realized I needed to spend more time caring for myself in order to show up as the best version of my self with my little ones, something I had previously said I didn’t have time for.

Building Strong Boundaries

Creating boundaries was crucial to my transformation. I learned to say no when necessary, without feeling guilty. This allowed me to protect my time and energy for the things that truly mattered. It also meant letting go of activities and people that drained me.

Running My Own Business

With a newfound sense of balance and clarity, I decided to pursue my dream of running my own business. Mindfulness had taught me to believe in myself and my abilities. It had allowed me to better focus and channel my energy more efficiently. I started small and gradually built my business, all while continuing to prioritize motherhood and homeschooling.

Homeschooling and Travel

One of the most significant benefits of my mindfulness journey was the ability to homeschool my children. I could tailor their education to their needs and interests, creating a more fulfilling learning experience for them. And, with careful planning and flexible work arrangements, we began to travel together, exposing them to diverse cultures and experiences.
